Unterlagen für die Investorensuche

Documents for the investor search: what you need

If you want to take the next step with your company and are looking for an investor, you may be wondering how to go about it. Finding suitable investors is not easy, as there are a number of things to consider. One of these is the presentation of your company and you need the right documents for this. Three documents in particular are important when looking for investors, which we present to you in this article.

What documents do I need to find an investor?

There are three documents that you should have ready when you are looking for an investor. These are the executive summary, the pitch deck and the business plan. These three documents serve to give the investor an insight into your business model, your corporate planning and your vision for the future.

  • The executive summary is at the top of the list because investors often only read the executive summary first. This is a brief summary of your business plan. In principle, it is a version of your business plan summarized on one or two pages. For this reason, it makes sense to only write the executive summary once you have created a detailed business plan for your company.
  • The pitch deck is a presentation that introduces your company and your vision in 10 to 15 slides. It should briefly and concisely explain the problem you want to solve with your company. Accordingly, the solution must also be represented on one slide. You should also discuss your product, the market, the competition, your unique selling proposition, your marketing strategy, your business model, the forecast, your team and the financing.
  • The business plan is often the last thing requested by investors when there is interest. Nevertheless, you should prepare the business plan for your company first of all these documents. The business plan can be very comprehensive and, in addition to the business idea, business model, etc., should contain precise figures that forecast sales, profits, expenses, etc. for the coming years.

What else is important to convince an investor?

There are two questions that every investor wants to have answered sooner or later. Ideally, the answers to these questions will emerge from the pitch deck. In any case, you should always have an answer ready and be able to present it convincingly.

First of all, the investor asks himself why your company is interesting for him and you should ask yourself the same question: Why is your company interesting for the investor? For an investor, the focus is always on profitability and scalability. It is also interesting to know how big the market is for your project and how big the competition is. So think about why an investor should give money to your company of all companies.

And the second question is also about money. Because what you want is capital and so sooner or later the question arises as to how much money you actually want. How much capital do you need at what point in time in order to achieve which goals in which time frame? The investor needs an answer to this question in order to be able to assess whether your demands are realistic, how much return he can expect and over what period of time.

But don’t worry, because if you have the three investor search documents mentioned above well prepared and ready, you can answer these two questions in your sleep.
